Millions Of Texas Lottery Scratch Offs Go Unclaimed Every Year

Mike Jarvis from Texas shared with his daughter a winning scratched off lottery ticket given to him as a Christmas present. Jarvis set the ticket in the glove box of his car, it sat there for about 10 months. He re-found the winning ticket after going through his glove box one day and decided to collect his winnings, but when turned in his lottery winning ticket he was told he was too late, the ticket was void after 6 months of the closing of the scratch off. This is game rules under the rules of the Texas Lottery Commission.

My point is an average of about $50 million a year over the past several years of Texas Lottery Scratch Offs goes unclaimed by countless Texas lottery players.

So how much lottery money goes unclaimed?

2012: $52.3 million went unclaimed that is serious money.
2011;  $53.7 million went unclaimed.
2010: $86.8 million went unclaimed.

Texas lotto players who simply forget to follow up on casing in their winning lottery tickets are numerous, far more than I would have imagined.

Check your lottery tickets and cash them in, they all have expiry dates, after that date they are void!

Here is another story to remind you to check your lottery ticket yourself!

A convenience store clerk fooled a store customer out of his winning lottery ticket by swiping the ticket saying it was not a winner, when it actually was. The store clerk turned in and claimed the winning lottery ticket as his own six months after the lotto drawing. When the original ticket owner grew suspicious of an identical lottery ticket as played same exact lottery numbers every week for years, a private investigator was sought out and hired to investigate.

It was discovered that the store clerk owner had stolen the winning lottery ticket and had been awarded over $6 million in winnings. This type of incident has happen more than a few times around the world, which should remind people to never trust a store clerk with your lottery tickets.
